At Women Transforming Myanmar, we empower women through targeted business training and consultancy, advocating for gender equality and professional growth. Our mission is to build a supportive network that nurtures women's leadership and innovation, fostering a society where every woman can succeed and inspire change.

Our Story

Women Transforming Myanmar was founded in 2020 during the crisis of COVID-19. Due to COVID-19 and political upheaval in Myanmar, women face significant struggles, from managing family income under stressful conditions to seeking job opportunities and starting their own businesses. Many lack access to essential resources such as market information, training, and finance, making it incredibly challenging to survive or sustain. Recognizing these barriers, Ma Thiri Aung established Women Transforming Myanmar to create a supportive community where women can access the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to succeed.

At Women Transforming Myanmar, we offer leadership training, mentorship programs, business development services, and strategic partnerships with organizations like UN Women and UNDP. We have partnered with UN Women to deliver the Transformative Feminist Leadership program, empowering over 500 women with leadership training and support in 2023. We've also collaborated with UNDP to facilitate nearly 400 women entrepreneurs with essential business skills.

Organization Objectives

“Women Transforming Myanmar" (WTM) is an initiative aimed at empowering women in Myanmar across various sectors. While specific organizational objectives may vary, typically focus on:

  • Empowerment: To empower women economically, socially, and politically by providing them with opportunities, resources, and support.
  • Leadership Development: To cultivate and enhance leadership skills among women, enabling them to take on influential roles within their communities, businesses, and organizations.
  • Gender Equality: To promote gender equality and advocate for women's rights in Myanmar society, challenging cultural and systemic barriers.
  • Capacity Building: To build the capacity of women through training, education, and workshops in areas such as entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and advocacy.
  • Networking and Collaboration: To foster networks and collaborations among women and with other organizations to amplify their impact and influence.
  • Awareness and Advocacy: To raise awareness about issues affecting women in Myanmar and advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality and women's empowerment.
  • Sustainability: To ensure the sustainability of their efforts by creating long-term programs and partnerships that continue to support women's advancement.
